Avatar has revealed its first sneak peek at the return of Sigourney Weaver.

The Alien star will return to the Avatar franchise even though her character Dr. Grace Augustine died in the original film, with the actress having hinted that she will have a new role in the multiple sequels.

A preview of Sigourney at work on director James Cameron's set arrived on Thursday (April 30). We can assume it's probably an old photo because she's definitely not social distancing from co-star Joel David Moore or producer Jon Landau.

A caption from the official Avatar Twitter account revealed: "From the set of the Avatar sequels: Producer Jon Landau, Sigourney Weaver, and Joel David Moore revisited the Site 26 Shack to shoot scenes for the new films."

Weaver has been a huge booster for Cameron making four Avatar sequels, explaining in the past that there's "a very good reason" to make so many movies.

"Having read all four of them, I think they're absolutely extraordinary and worth the wait," she promised.

The legendary actress also confirmed back in 2018 that she was already filming material for Avatar 4 and 5 — more than seven years before the fifth movie would even be released.

"It's kind of one story. They're all independent," she confirmed at the time. "It works without four and five, but it really is a big saga."

Weaver will be joined in the Avatar sequels by returning cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang, as well as newcomers Vin Diesel, Edie Falco and Michelle Yeoh.

Avatar 2 will be released on December 17, 2021 in US and UK cinemas.
