Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman's new BBC detective series has landed a release date - and it's soon.

The actor plays the leading role in The Jetty which will launch on BBC One and streaming service BBC iPlayer on July 15.

Alongside the release date confirmation, the BBC shared a first-look trailer of the show, showing Coleman in action as Detective Ember Manning, who makes some disturbing discoveries after a mysterious fire breaks out in her local community.

The trailer opens by introducing us to Manning, who is presented as a driven, no-nonsense detective. "I'm basically a human lie detector," she says.

Viewers then hear from actor Weruche Opia of I May Destroy You fame, whose as-yet-unnamed character explains: "I do a podcast on crimes against women and girls".

She goes on to suggest that abuse against females is prolific in their small, seemingly picturesque town.

"He's a predator and he needs to be stopped," she later states of an individual in voiceover, with the trailer switching to a shocked Manning telling someone on the phone: "You stay away from my daughter, do you hear me?"

This is followed by a close-up of House of the Dragon actor Tom Glynn-Carney, hinting at his possible villain status in the show.

The Jetty also stars Happy Valley's Amelia Bullmore, Lockwood and Co and Bridgerton actor Ruby Stokes, and Game of Thrones' Ralph Ineson.

"When a fire tears through a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls," reads the official synopsis.

"But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home."

The Jetty promises to asks big questions on sexual morality, identity and memory in the post-Me Too era.

The Jetty airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on July 15.
