Bellingham town hall on tap: Can we have universal health care in Washington?

Whole Washington and the League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County will host a community conversation about the woes of our current for-profit health care system and how establishing the Washington Health Trust could be a real solution for Washington state, saving lives and saving money.

The town hall will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Bellingham Public Library Lecture Room on Saturday, July 13. It’s a nonpartisan, educational event, open to everyone.

Whole Washington aims to create open dialogue about our health care system. In some way, we’re all too familiar with the failures of the fragmented, for-profit system that we have today. Failures like:

  • Inadequate staffing

  • Hospital closures

  • Challenges with navigating insurance coverage

  • Denials, networks, and pre-authorizations

  • Surprise bills and medical debt

We know we can do better. By establishing the Washington Health Trust and designing a publicly funded, nonprofit system, we can offer comprehensive care to all Washington State residents. Patients, providers, unions, small businesses — our entire community will benefit. When we disconnect healthcare from employment, we live longer and save money.

Whole Washington organizers will present about 20 minutes’ worth of material and then move into a Q&A session. Everyone has a story, and we want to hear yours. We’ll highlight how the Washington Health Trust can resolve many existing issues and get us on track to a brighter future.

Please join us and let’s increase our people power. Together, we can make Universal Healthcare a reality.
