Bidding underway for property

Vacant lots for sale in Shuniah don't usually last too long once they've landed on the market, local observers say. That may end up being the case with a nearly two-hectare property currently being offered by the municipality. Potential purchasers have until June 6 to make a bid on the Duncan Avenue property, which is being sold under the province's municipal tax sales rules. According to a public notice about the lot, the minimum bid has been set at just over $31,000. Bids must be accompanied by a 20-per cent deposit, the notice says. Shuniah Mayor Wendy Landry said in her experience empty lots in the rural municipality get snapped up fairly quickly. The Duncan Avenue property for sale is zoned residential. It's characterized as "near the water" but not directly on Lake Superior. More information is available online at ontariotaxsales.ca.
