Things are all good between Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford.
According to an unpublished excerpt from her Rolling Stone cover story that surfaced on May 17 — the same day as her third studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft — the “Lunch” singer-songwriter, 22, is still on friendly terms with her rocker ex-boyfriend.
“That’s my guy, truly one of my favorite people in the world,” she told the publication of Rutherford, 32.
Eilish seemingly confirmed that she’s single at the moment but also expressed that she has zero interest in getting back into a relationship anytime soon.
“I plan on never dating again,” the nine-time Grammy winner joked before clarifying her statement. “That’s not true, obviously. But no, I don’t see myself being serious with anyone until I find someone that really feels right to me, and that is not interesting to me right now.”
Eilish’s new comments come exactly one year after her representative confirmed her split from Rutherford to PEOPLE. The pair, who were last seen together at Coachella in April 2023, dated for less than a year before calling it quits.
"We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends," the singer’s rep shared in a statement. "All cheating rumors are false. Both are currently single."
Eilish echoed similar comments on her Instagram Stories that August when a fan asked where she stands with Rutherford. “Very very good friends only," she wrote of The Neighbourhood frontman, adding, "My homie forever."
The “Ocean Eyes” singer and musician were romantically linked on Oct. 13, 2022, when they were spotted cozying up inside the vegan restaurant Crossroads Kitchen in West Hollywood. A few days later, they were seen lip-locked outside of Lal Mirch Indian restaurant in Studio City. Then, on Nov. 1, 2022, Eilish made their romance Instagram official by posting a series of photos of their couples Halloween costumes captioned, "Life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy,” with a clown emoji.
Prior to their breakup, Eilish and Rutherford attended a few industry events together, including the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty and the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala, where they made their public debut.
Since their split, Eilish has been a bit more candid about her love life, namely while coming to terms with her sexuality, which she initially planned to keep private. The "What Was I Made For?" singer told Rolling Stone it was “really frustrating” when her coming out in Variety in December made headlines.
“The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it,” she shared. “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other … It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”
However, with explicit songs like “Lunch” on her new album, it seems Eilish has become a bit more comfortable with letting people in on her journey of self-discovery.
"That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” said the Oscar winner. “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after."
She added, "I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina."
