Organizers of Trudeau/Brazeau boxing match planning another: who should fight?

The organizers of last year's Justin Trudeau versus Patrick Brazeau charity boxing match are planning another for 2014.

"We are looking to do another [Fight for the Cure], but we're only at the beginning stages," FFTC's Robert Imbeault told Yahoo! Canada News in an email exchange last week.

"We usually ramp it up in September to get the competitors trained by March-April. No one on the list yet, but well take suggestions."

Political Points is happy to oblige. After all, last year's event — which Trudeau won — raised $230,000 for cancer research.

We went to our expert political panel for some suggestions.

Vancouver-based political analyst and radio host Alex Tsakumis suggests that Trudeau should defend his crown against Conservative MP Peter MacKay. And if MacKay doesn't want to fight the Liberal leader, Tsakumis says that he will.

Right leaning political consultant Gerry Nicholls offered an all-Senate card of Senators Marc Harb and Mike Duffy as his suggestion.

"Loser leaves town," Nicholls said in an email to with Yahoo! Canada News.

Abacus Data pollster David Coletto says stick to the House of Commons.

"Pierre Poilievre vs. [NDP MP] Alexandre Boulerice," he said.

"Both men have been the bulldogs of their respective parties and have been battling it out in Question Period for the past two years."

Yahoo! Canada's Matthew Coutts talks about a hybrid HoC/Senate battle.

"We've got to respect the recipe used in the inaugural event," Coutts said.

His main event card would feature Duffy versus NDP MP Pat Martin.

"When you are talking about senators these days, the first person who comes to mind is Mike Duffy. The Dufffinator, hailing from parts unknown, has a mean right cross and benefits from the best cut man in the business, Nigel Wright (never afraid to cut a cheque to get Duffy out of a tight corner)," Coutts muses.

"On the other side of the fight, we have one of the biggest mouths in the House of Commons: NDP MP Pat Martin. He has a devastating finishing move - a deceptively quick haymaker thrown from his left side. His diet of prairie grains and beef has helped him add muscle mass, and he has been more focused in the ring since giving up his Twitter habit."

Finally, political scientist Bruce Hicks has a bit of an unorthodox idea.

"I would propose that any Senator or MP (and yes there are a number of MPs) taking an Ottawa housing allowance without a second residence back home be forced (on threat of criminal prosecution) to film a choreographed 30-second TV spot showing them losing humiliatingly to one of the teen cast of Kick-Ass2," he said referencing the action comedy due out in theatres on August 16th.

"Film footage will remain the property of Cineplex and while intended for entertainment purposes, may be licenced to political parties or media so as raise awareness about misuse of funds... nah, we are kidding, it will only be used for entertainment and money making."

And for me, my dream card is a lot simpler: Mike Duffy versus NDP leader Thomas Mulcair.

Billed as Angry Tom vs. The Duff, this heavyweight bout would feature the man who wants to abolish the Senate versus the man who has done so much for the abolish-the-Senate movement.

And just think of the merchandising opportunities: T-shirts, bobble-heads, punching bags…

Let’s get rrrrrrready to rrrrrrrumbllllle!
