Madonna is now the one walking on broken glass, at least where Annie Lennox is concerned.

Lennox, who is currently promoting her new album "Nostalgia," has called out the 56-year-old Queen of Pop for appearing topless in a new photo shoot for Interview magazine.

"I did get things off occasionally, but not to that extent," the Eurythmics alum said on the British talk show "Loose Women" on Tuesday. "I think the question is, 'What is Madonna telling us? Anybody know?'"

Lennox then agreed with fellow panelist Janet Street-Porter that it was simply "attention seeking."

Though Madonna has not responded to the criticism, we imagine she would be pleased. "We're in the world of creating illusions and giving people the ability to dream and to be inspired or moved," she said in Interview.

And what is Lennox if not moved? In fact, it happens to her a lot.

Lately Lennox, who wrote an article for The Huffington Post in 2011 entitled "Reclaiming Feminism", has prided herself on calling out female musicians for their "feminist lite" behaviour. In September, in an interview with PrideSource, she took issue with Beyoncé's MTV Video Music Awards performance.

"It's tokenistic to me. I mean, I think she's a phenomenal artist - I just love her performances - but I'd like to sit down (with her)," Lennox said. "I think I'd like to sit down with quite a few artists and talk to them. I'd like to listen to them; I'd like to hear what they truly think."

A month later, Lennox appeared to take a swipe at Miley Cyrus, who called herself "one of the biggest feminists in the world" last year.

"Twerking is not feminism," Lennox told NPR, explaining, "It's not -- it's not liberating, it's not empowering. It's a sexual thing that you're doing on a stage; it doesn't empower you. That's my feeling about it."

Let's hope no one introduces Lennox to Ariana Grande.
