89-year-old man makes stand-up comedy debut; totally kills it

He’s an oldie by a goodie.

Chuck Esterley has proven that it’s never too late to try something new. At 89 years old, this feisty old fellow made his stand-up comedy debut at the Go Bananas Comedy Club in Cincinnati, reports BuzzFeed News.

According to the club’s Facebook page, Esterley attended a Comedy 101 class at the Sycamore Senior Centre. On October 14, he got to try his material out in front of a live audience.

The senior centre wrote:

“You are never too old. Chuck Esterly age 89 makes his stand up debut. Sycamore Senior Center in Cincinnati offered a Comedy 101 Class. Students learned how to make their own stories hilarious, write and deliver jokes, timing and delivery, how to charm an audience and how different shows are structured. At the end of the class, students performed their routine at Pro-Am Night Go Bananas Comedy Club. Chuck was the head of the class.”

Esterley did not disappoint. As it turns out, there’s a wealth of “I’m super old” material just waiting to be tapped.

A YouTube video of his set was posted to Reddit and has since gone viral.

“The manager said, don’t die out there,” said Esterley. “I think he was talking about my jokes.”

There were the requisite bladder control jokes:

“I stopped calling the bathroom the john and I renamed it the gym, because I feel way better saying, I went to the gym this morning. But it backfires if I have to say I went to the gym five times last night.”

The crowd was in stitches for his entire seven-minute set.

One Redditor commented: “I hope I look that good at 89. He also hopped onto the stage. He hopped.”
