A police officer decided to join children in a friendly neighbourhood battle last week in Warpole, Massachusetts.

Deputy Chief John Carmichael came across a couple of girls waiting for their bus and was caught on video joining their competition.

Carmichael stopped to talk to the girls at their bus stop while on duty that morning and soon after, an epic jump rope battle for neighbourhood domination started, the police department’s Facebook page said.

The two girls, Molly and Sarah, made an impressive show of their jump rope skills. Carmichael was in the middle wearing his uniform and trying to keep up with them. “I’m just getting started,” Carmichael said in the video as he started jumping against Molly and Sarah.

It looks as if he had a chance to win the battle, but he was defeated in just 30 seconds. In the end, Sarah won the jump rope game.

“Although he made a gallant effort, DC Carmichael’s advanced years were no match for the energy and vitally of youth,” said the Facebook page. The girls were congratulated for their impressive display of rope jumping skills.

Carmichael may have lost the battle but his positive engagement with the neighbourhood youth has garnered a lot of support from the community, especially online.
