Aussie TV reporter bombs when telling Dalai Lama joke to Dalai Lama

An Aussie TV reporter learned this week that in comedy timing is everything.

Karl Stefanovic may have thought he had the perfect classic joke to tell the Dalai Lama during an interview, after all, it is about the Dalai Lama himself. But the Dalai Lama just intently looked at the reporter like he had no clue what was going on.

Even though the joke is about the Dalai Lama walking into a pizza place, the Dalai Lama didn't appear to know what pizza is.

The reporter learned the hard way that when you have to say, "Do you know what I mean" at the end of a joke, it wasn't told at the right time. The only time the Dalai Lama laughs is when the reporter leans forward, puts his head in his hand and says, "Oh, I knew that wouldn't work."

"You do breakfast television, you have to lay it out there sometimes," Stefanovic tell Fox News.

He says the Dalai Lama has done a lot of interviews, but not much has changed so Stefanovic decided to take advice from his 12-year-old son and tell the pizza joke.

He tells Fox News, "It just didn't work out very well for me."

This isn't the first time this year things haven't gone exactly according to plan for Stefanovic. In February he broke down in a fit of laughter and walked off the set when the four anchors were talking about devices they keep under the bed to protect their families. They constantly referred to a "long stabby thing".

Last year he made reference to a Canadian saying "That little Justin Bieber, he annoys the hell out of me."

In 2009, he had to apologize for being drunk on air.
