Australia revives Best Jobs in the World contest

Set up a desk on the beach and prepare to work hard if you apply for one of Australia's six Best Jobs in the World.

Be warned: your duties will include gazing upon sunsets and swimming with sea lions. Chief Funster might sound like an easy gig, but you don't really want to spend six months attending festivals, partying and blogging, do you? Of course not.

The British winner of the Queensland board of tourism's 2009 competition for a half-year position as Hamilton Island caretaker, Ben Southall, was stung by a lethal jellyfish and fell ill during his last week on the job, according to the BBC.

Sure, he spent six months living in paradise while kayaking, sailing and promoting Australia, and he quickly recovered from the sting. But jellyfish stings hurt.

The Park Ranger position might include a $100,000 salary package and a directive to explore the coastline at will but where's the dental insurance?

The Queensland tourism board flew the finalists from the 2009 competition, including Canadian Erik Rolfson, to Hamilton Island for interviews after a grueling competition between 35,000 applicants, according to the CBC.

Applicants this year will have to upload a video explaining why they're the best choice for the job. All that for an overpaid working holiday as a Taste Master, Outback Adventurer or one of four other jobs as a blogging tourist?

You might as well stick it out in Canada. Afterall, Winnipeg's average daily temperature was a balmy -15.3 degrees Celsius in January.
