A group of beachgoers walking along San Francisco Bay capture footage of this awesome Back to the Future 'DeLorean' just cruising right by!

The date Doc Brown plugged into Back to the Future’s iconic DeLorean is still more than two years away.

That tiny detail hasn’t stopped Matthew Riese from taking his refurbished DeLorean hovercraft – a cross between a DeLorean and a hoverboard – out for a few preliminary, head-turning spins.

As Uproxx reports, the San Francisco grad student has spent the last few years crafting the impressive vehicle after he received $5,644 in donations on Kickstarter to complete his project.

While the DeLorean looks like a car, it’s actually registered as a boat and only uses the shell of a ride immortalized by the 1985 Hollywood classic.

It’s also a bit slower than the original, reaching a maximum speed of 45 miles per hour, meaning it will probably only get you to the 2019 vicinity.

The good news is you’ll look this cool while you try:

Now if he can make a flying DeLorean out of an old Cessna 120, we’re that much closer to living out our mid-80s fantasies. Riese still has until October 21, 2015 to finish the job.
