Dad and son lip-sync to Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' and totally own it

Chris O’Malley was on a road trip with his 15-year-old son, Sean, when they started lip-syncing to their playlist to pass the time.

When the Guns N’ Roses song they were listening to ended, Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” started playing.

They went with it.

“Rocking out to GNR is definitely macho, but it’s hard to be tough singing a T Swift song. We just rolled with it and shook it off,” O’Malley told TODAY Parents.

The video of their “Shake It Off” lip-sync went viral.

Awesome! I hope that my son and I can have a relationship like this when he is a teenager too!” wrote on YouTube viewer.

O’Malley, a veteran who lives in Georgia, believes it’s important for parents to have fun with teenage children.

"I think a wall is there, and just being silly and cutting loose takes those walls down and gets teens talking," said O’Malley.

"I hope this video encourages more parents to do fun stuff with their kids, and I hope teenagers can get over being cool for a minute and goof off with Mom and Dad."

O’Malley told TODAY that the lip-syncing road-trip videos started as a way to pass the time when he and his 17-year-old daughter, Briana, were driving five hours to visit friends.

They created several videos and posted them to Facebook. Friends and family suggested O’Malley post them to YouTube where a handful of them found viral success.

When a YouTube user commented that he wished he had “this kind of relationship with my dad,” and acknowledged he didn’t have any father figure at all, O’Malley responded:

“I never met my dad. Use that knowledge to appreciate life even more. It’s his loss!! Keep your head up and get involved with something positive!! We all make choices in life and he made the wrong one. When all else fails and you have a bad day just rock out! Stay strong!!”
