Diver shoves arm into shark’s mouth to remove fishing hook

This shark with a dental problem recently found a friend in a professional shark handler who was willing to plunge her hand deep into its toothy mouth to retrieve a fishing hook.

Christina Zenato, who's often described as the "shark whisperer," has worked with sharks for nearly two decades, according to the Telegraph.

Pulling hooks from sharks' mouths is everyday work for her, but Zenato wrote the situation was different with this troubled fish.

"In this particular case it was harder than usual," she wrote in the video description, which seems like an understatement after watching her struggle elbow-deep inside a Caribbean Reef Shark.

One commenter on Vimeo wrote the shark could have torn off Zenato's arm. But she responded that she had been wearing protective gear, and the position in which she held the small shark prevented it from injuring her.

The original video has gathered 104,000 views since it was uploaded on August 17.

Zenato was born in Italy and grew up in the African Congo, according to her website, but she first learned to dive in the Bahamas.

Past videos of her engagement with sharks show them swimming between her legs, brushing up to her and pausing for a pat on the nose.
