Eighty-year-old man who dined and dashed when he was 10 finally pays the bill

As the story goes, in 1941 two young boys dined at a restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah. But the mischievous lads, around 10 years old at the time, left the restaurant without paying his bill; a form of theft commonly known as the "dine and dash," the "eat and run," or "beating the check."

Better late than never.

Waitress Jasmine Back said that an unnamed woman walked into the restaurant, now known as Lamb’s Grill, and said, "My father dined and dashed here in 1941."

The woman then shared the story of how her father and his friend came in when he was 10 years old and skipped out on the bill. She said her father had been full of guilt ever since and wanted to pay back the hefty 1$ bill that he and his friend had racked up.

The woman handed Back a 5$ bill as an apology.

"She tells me that he was actually so embarrassed about it that he waited in the car while she did the deed," said Back.

The Lamb's Grill's current owner, Francis Liong, plans to give the money to the original owners, and hopes the man knows he is forgiven.

"The five dollars don't belong to me. It belongs to the previous owners, back then. So I need to pay it back," he said.

According to KSL Utah, this isn't the first time a random act of kindness has occurred at Lamb's Grill. During Christmas one year, a random couple got a surprise when two people dressed as elves paid for their dinner bill.

Liong hopes the man will come back and eat at Lamb"s Grill, just as long as he doesn't dine and dash this time!
