Imaginary spear thrown by Australian footballer inspires frenzied bidding wars

The imaginary spear thrown by Australian footballer Adam Goodes during a game this past May is for sale to the highest bidder – really.

As of August 4th, over 50 bids had been made on the invisible item used by the Sydney Swans player, which according to the eBay seller, is “capable of terrifying an entire small-minded crowd with an implied lob in their direction.”

The original post has since been taken down, but not before generating a $20,000 bid, reports The Herald Sun.

The invisible spear (and Goodes) made headlines when the footballer re-enacted an indigenous war dance during a match this past May, launching the spear into the direction of the opposing team’s cheer squad.

The dance and imaginary spear stirred controversy for the nationally-recognized and awarded Aboriginal athlete, who told reporters he has thought about retiring, due to incessant booing from opposing fans.

As for the invisible spear, copycat listings are now being posted, despite the fact that the imaginary item used is in fact a boomerang.

eBay Australia spokesperson Megan English confirmed that the site is pulling down the listings soon after they emerge.

“We have started removing these listings and will be monitoring for any new ones that might crop up,” English told The Herald Sun.

The listings come just after a flash mob was held in Melbourne, Australia, in support of Goodes, who just announced he will continue playing football.
