Kamloops man had unique knowledge of his trailer’s theft: He was still inside it

Theives stole a man's trailer in Kamloops, B.C., while he was still inside it.

When thieves stole a trailer in Kamloops, B.C. on Monday, they most likely didn't realize they had stolen its owner too.

The owner knew without a doubt when he called police that thieves were trying to make a getaway in his vehicle. He just didn't quite know which street they had turned down.

That's because the man was still inside the trailer when the carjackers jumped into the truck hauling it and drove off, according to the Canadian Press. The news wire reported he called police while the theft was in progress.

He eventually spotted a landmark that helped police find him and his property, the story says. But the suspects had disappeared.

In a similar case this February involving a car theft in New York City, the passenger who went along for the ride couldn't call the police. Surveillance footage showed someone stealing a car from a parking garage that turned out to have a sleeping baby girl in the back seat, according to the New York Post.

The suspect mustn't have realized he had an 8-month-old accomplice in the car until later, because he called the police and told them where to find the vehicle with the baby inside, according to the story.

Then he fled, perhaps as much afraid of diapers as he was of prosecution. Police found the baby safe.
