Man forgets $100,000 yacht in Swedish marina for two years

You may have too much money if you can forget a yacht in a Swedish marina for more than two years.

Most people would be boasting about the $100,000 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee instead of leaving it unattended to collect dust.

According to CNN, the boat had been floating in the marina in the village of Stromstad, just south of Norway, with no sign of an owner. The keys, in fact, were tied to the railing of the boat for all to see. Surprisingly, no one ever even attempted to steal it.

“You could just get on board and start it. But no, no one did,” said the area’s police inspector Christer Fuxborg, surely baffled by the situation.

However, when unpaid mooring fees began to pile up, suspicions began to rise that perhaps something terrible had happened to the yacht's mysterious owner.

The boat was still in shockingly good condition. When police officers searched the cabin for clues, they found documents dating back to 2008. Luckily, their Facebook appeal for information was then picked up by Norwegian media and seen by the boat’s owner.

The $100,000 yacht had simply ‘slipped his mind.'

“He had forgotten about it,” said Fuxborg, who did not disclose the owner’s name. “I think he must be really rich to forget he owned a boat like this,” he added.

The owner must now pay the mooring fees that had been adding up over the years. “As a guest to the harbour you usually pay a fee of $30 to $50 per 24 hours during summer,” said Fluxborg.

Something tells me this guy will have no problem paying for it, as long as he can remember to do so.
