Harry Potter-themed bar opens in Toronto

Muggles finally have a place to convene for a beer and shared appreciation of the wildly popular Harry Potter series.

Toronto bar The Lockhart is full of Potter-themed easter-egg that will surely delight any geek looking to tie one on.

Named after the useless Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, The Lockhart doesn’t blatantly let on that it’s a themed-bar devoted to everyone’s favourite child wizard - though die-hard J.K. Rowling fans are sure to pick up the references.

A heart-shaped neon-sign with the words “all was well” - the final words of the Potter series - glows brightly in the bar.

The drink menu features items like “The Shacklebolt” (a pure-blood wizard in the employment of the Ministry of Magic), “Befuddlement Brew”, and “Ludo’s Debt” (a nod to another wizard with the Ministry of Magic).

The food menu, on the other hand, is pretty straight forward, with items like baked brie and salad rolls. The owners also intend to sell Butterbeer, a butterscotch-inspired wizard beverage, once they figure out how to work around copyright issues.

“Without knowing any of the Harry Potter stuff, you already will think of this as a cool bar. You’d come here and see the stag’s head on the wall and go ‘Wow, I love that’, but a Harry Potter fan might say 'That’s a Patronus’,” co-owner Paris Xerx told NOW Magazine.

The Lockhart will host special events like trivia nights and Halloween parties, and will likely be a hotspot during next year’s Comicon.
