NYC restaurant makes big splash with over-the-top milkshakes

The Big Apple is known as one of the top cities in the United States for fine dining. But New Yorkers are lining up in droves to taste one thing in specific: massive milkshakes.

For $15 - and often up to a two hour wait in line - foodies can see what kind of a dent they can make shakes that measure almost a foot tall, according to ABC News.

Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, located in Manhattan’s SOHO and Meatpacking District neighbourhoods, first revamped the cool classic in November but it’s taken buzz on social media a few months to hit full stride.

The restaurant’s owner and head chef, Joe Isidori told ABC his wife was the one who inspired the change-up.

“One day my wife wanted me to make her a cotton candy milkshake, so I whipped something up, put it on Instagram and the rest is history,” Isidori said.

Black Tap has three main shakes on the menu at both locations.

This giant cookie milkshake, the Sweet and Salty, and the fair grounds classic Cotton Candy.

Isidori and his crew change it up from time to time mind you, adding new shakes for limited times and holidays.

Some of the more delectable looking creations include the not so standard birthday cake shake, salted caramel apple, the PB and Fluff, and pumpkin spice.

Holiday specials have included the obvious Christmas, Hanukkah and Halloween, but also the less typical breast cancer awareness month, Shark Week, even one celebrating the 1986 Mets World Series.

Don’t worry, if these all seem too over the top for you, you can still settle for the classic.
