School board president caught calling woman “chubby wubby” on camera regretfully resigns

A school board president resigned this week after being caught on camera calling a parent 'chubby wubby.'

The Mahopac School District in upstate New York released a statement on its website on Wednesday stating that the former Board of Education President Raymond Cote has indeed left his role.

In the video, Cote is standing with two co-workers seemingly discussing the board meeting, when he mentions the woman standing a few feet away from them. “Oh yeah, I know. This one here, chubby wubby, she gets fatter and fatter at every meeting. She really does,” he says, not knowing a live microphone caught each of his truly mean words.

The most shocking part of all is the fact that these words are coming from a man who is the president of the school board, where children should be learning the effects of bullying, not endorsing it.

This sort of behavior certainly doesn’t seem like the kind that should come from Cote, who apparently is a member of a ‘diversity and sensitivity initiative’ that was created earlier this year when students made racial comments following an intense high school playoff basketball game.

“I would like to apologize for my choice of words after the close of the Board meeting on April 8, 2014, which are regretful,” said Cote in Tuesday’s statement. “My words were inappropriate and do not reflect my feelings or attitudes.”

According to the school district’s website, Cote was publicly elected in May 2011 to serve as the board president for a three-year term, but after his harsh words were made public at the school board meeting, he withdrew his candidacy for re-election.

Maybe the school board should be having a meeting on adult anti-bullying, instead.
