Stray dog survives 248-mile ride stuck in car’s bumper

Dog caught in bumper

On March 26 in Fenghuang County, China, a speeding driver hit a stray dog that was attempting to cross the expressway. Not bothering to stop, the driver assumed the canine either ran off or succumbed to its injuries.

“I was driving pretty quickly at the time so when I hit the dog, I thought it had either died or run away, so I didn’t get out of the car to check,” said the driver, identified by People’s Daily Online as Mr. Zhang.

More than 200 miles later, Zhang noticed that the dog was still with him, caught in the vehicle’s front bumper.

“[Later], I heard barking from under the car,” Zhang said. “There was some distance between the dog and the water tank and its body was held tightly by the bumper.”

“I didn’t dare to extricate it by myself. I thought it should be safe there, so I drove it all the way back to Loudi.”

Zhang immediately drove him to the nearest veterinary clinic for treatment. Remarkably, the dog survived the 248-mile ride without any serious injuries.

The lucky dog then got even luckier — by finding a forever home with Zhang.

Zhang adopted the dog, claiming its remarkable survival “shows my fate with the dog.”
