This bird’s eye view of a man paddleboarding with whales will melt your heart

Jamien Hudson of Esperance, Australia was in the right place at the right time on Fourth Beach off of the country’s South East Coast when two Southern Right whales serenely swimming around the ocean were close enough to capture with his drone. The footage he captured will give you a lovely sense of calm and peace.

It just so happens that a friend nearby, Dave Price, was out on his paddleboard and able to get up close and personal while the footage was being shot. Hudson Price’s encounter was being far from dangerous as the whales were inquisitive and moving very slowly.

Needless to say with such beautiful, amazing and rare footage now online thanks to Hudson’s drone and good fortune, the video is gaining international attention. It brings to light the 70 per cent of the world under water that we as humans know very little about, and also sparks the desire of human beings to get up close and personal with the world’s most fascinating animals.

Just to give you an idea of how amazing the sight really is, an adult Southern Right whale can weigh as much as 60 tonnes and stretch up to 55 feet in length. Females are larger than their male counterparts. Their incredible size is paralleled by their incredible strength. Wrap your head around the idea that just one flip of a Southern Right whale’s tail is enough to send it out of the water and into the sky. With the size and strength they possess, it might surprise a few people that these whales feast mainly on insane amounts of plankton, one of the smallest forms of food in the sea, rather than human beings on paddle boards

What an amazing sight to see! Even if we non-paddle boarders killing time on a lunch break only ever get to witness it through the eyes of a drone.
