Still geeking out: 11-year-old Justin Trudeau reviews Star Wars

More than 30 years ago, Canada’s leader took his son to the premier of a groundbreaking film about powerful fathers and sons ruling galactic empires.

In the present day, his son has been elected to the same office, the same year the franchise reboots. It’s almost too perfect.

In 1983, 11-year-old Justin joined his papa, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, for the premiere of Return of the Jedi in Ottawa.

The pair were dressed in suits and walked in with the rest of the lucky early bird ticket holders.

When the movie ended, the press asked Justin what he thought of it.

“It’s the best one,” young Trudeau told reporters as his father smiled and shook hands with the crowd.

“It’s better than The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars - at least I think so,” he added, proving that even as a pre-teen he had his political persona down.

The hair, the quiet confidence, the charm. It’s all there.

The self-proclaimed Star Wars geek tweeted about seeing The Force Awakens last night in Ottawa, accompanied by 20 patients from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
