#AlexFromTarget: He’s a trending topic — and we’re still not completely sure why.

On October 26, Twitter user @brooklynjreiff posted a photo of a good-looking teen named Alex bagging purchases in his Target uniform.

After a few shares on social media, the photo gained momentum. #AlexFromTarget started trending. A viral star was born.

There’s a tumblr account dedicated to him, and a fake Twitter account.

He even has his own Urban Dictionary definition — although we doubt he’s actually a “hardcore pimp.”

The real Alex from Target seems to be taking the news of this sudden fame rather well.

And despite rumours that this attention got him fired from Target, the store is standing by their man. Target also loves Alex.

The Internet really likes discovering unknown attractive people. Also see: “sexy felon” Jeremy Meeks or “ridiculously photogenic guy” Zeddie Little.

Because of Alex’s insta-fame, some Twitter users are hoping to use his popularity to draw attention to other good-looking guys with jobs.

The problem with Internet fame, of course, is that our attention spans are getting shorter all the time. Who knows who else will be big for no reason by next weekend?

Hopefully Alex will at least be able to get a raise out of his 15 minutes of fame.
