Bangladesh factory survivor gets job in five-star hotel

Reshma Begum, 19, made international headlines for surviving 17 days trapped under the rubble of a collapsed Bangladesh garment factory, living off four packets of biscuits and a small bottle of water as she awaited rescue.

The April 24 garment-industry disaster was considered the worst of its kind in the world, taking 1,129 lives.

On Thursday, the smiling teen greeted the media at the military hospital where she had been receiving treatment.

"I am OK now, doing fine. I am grateful to everybody," she told reporters.

Begum, who vowed to never again work in a garment factor, has a new job lined up: welcoming guests at the five-star Westin Dhaka hotel property.

"We are proud to have her on board with us. I hope we can together create a good future and career for this young woman," Westin Dhaka manager Azim Shah told Reuters.

Instead of making the $65 a month she earned at the garment factory, Begum will be taking home a much healthier paycheque: $450 a month.
