Cheers! Winnipeg Jets fans get their own brew

Winnipeg Jets fans, this Bud's for you — literally.

Budweiser has created a new beer, called the Jets Fan Brew, made with water from iconic Winnipeg locations and "blessed with fans' best wishes for a winning hockey season," the Winnipeg Sun reports.

A short doc on the Manitoba-made beer was created in anticipation of the "epic toast" made to the fans on March 1.

"The Winnipeg Jets Fan Brew is Budweiser's way of paying homage to Jets fans and celebrating the team's first season back on the ice," said Dan Chubey, district sales manager for Labatt.

Fans raised pints Thursday — one of the province's largest-ever simultaneous toasts — after the second period of the Jets' game against the Florida Panthers. The beer is now available in MLCC stores and at participating Manitoba bars.

Budweiser didn't just make a Jets-fan-friendly brew; it made a Jets-fan-friendly donation. The "king of beers" company donated $25,000 to the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres to help maintain and improve the city's outdoor rinks.

"We not only wanted to give Jets fans across the country an opportunity to be part of history, we also wanted to honour our commitment to the Winnipeg community and to the continuation of hockey in the city. This was a great way to further fuel Winnipeg's passion for hockey. These dollars will go towards outdoor rink improvement and maintenance to ensure fans can get out and enjoy their beloved sport now and for years to come," said Chubey.

Only 24,000 two-fours of the brew was made, each packaged with a numbered certificate of authenticity. They'll likely sell out within two weeks.
