Internet comes to the rescue of dog in plastic bag thrown in ditch

There is a lot to be said for the power of a viral photo – especially if it includes an animal in distress.

When Marcia Lutz of Marechal Cândido Rondon, Brazil, posted a photo of a dog trapped in a plastic bag and in a ditch, she took to Facebook to ask for help.

“He was thrown into a ditch inside a plastic bag. It’s a difficult place to access,” she wrote on a Brazilian animal rescue page. "I wasn’t able to save his life. Can anyone help?“

According to The Huffington Post, her plea for help prompted a quick response from a local health facility, whose employees climbed into the ditch to save the puppy.

“In this spot, it’s common for people to throw out garbage, dead animals and dogs,” Lutz wrote in a comment, translated by The Huffington Post. "But [throwing out a dog] inside a bag, left to die is beyond.“

The dog was adopted soon after arriving at the health facility.
