Kansas City police officer challenges kids to dance-off, loses

A Kansas City police officer challenged some kids in an east-side neighbourhood to a dance-off over the weekend. He lost.

Officer J. Krebs and his 26-year-old partner spotted some kids dancing on the street on Sunday night. Krebs, who loves to dance, dared his rookie partner to try to out-dance the kids.

The young cop's "best" moves were hilarious at best, but the kids seemed to appreciate the effort.

"He was pretty fun. I'm glad that he's not like showing us that cops can be bad but also cops can be cool to little kids," Natalie Garcia, who recorded the dance-off with her cell phone, told Fox 4 News.

"I hope it's something that they can remember and that when they grow to be adults and they actually need us for something, they'll actually call us when they need us," said Officer Krebs, who handed out Jolly Ranchers to the kids as prizes for besting his partner's dance moves.

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department posted the video of the dance battle on Facebook.

"Maybe we’ll start including dancing as a course at the academy, because it sure looks like we could use it," Kansas City police wrote on their Facebook page.

The video went viral.

"I have said it before and I will say it again. You can not Serve and Protect unless you are willing to 'Reach out and Connect.' Hats off Officers. Hats Off," wrote one Facebook user.

Earlier this summer, another video of police officers in Kansas City engaging local youths went viral.

Three officers joined some local kids in a game of pickup basketball.
