A local BBC radio station recently got an emotional phone call from one of their listeners who was “upset, lonely and missing his wife.”

What happened next will warm your heart.

During Alex Dyke’s mid-morning show, Bill Palmer called the BBC Radio Solent to share his heartbreaking story, Mirror reports.

“He called up to say he was lonely and missed [his wife],” producer Chris Hitchings told BuzzFeed News. “I don’t think he had anyone else to talk to.”

After hearing his story, Dyke invited the 95-year-old to come in to the station for a cup of coffee,to which Palmer happily obliged. Bu Palmer didn’t show up just drink his free coffee, he instantly “became the star of the show,” BuzzFeed News reports.

When Palmer arrived at the studio using the taxi ordered by the radio team, he was given a guest spot on air, Mirror reports. Palmer received several phone calls from regular listeners who wanted to speak with him.

Palmer married his wife last year in June after being friends for 30 years, he told Dyke during the first phone call, which was posted on the radio’s Facebook page. Sadly, a severe fall left her injured and she went into a nursing home, where Palmer visits her everyday.

“Everyday is hell,” Palmer said on the program. “[But] I go to see her everyday. And she’s so happy when I’m with her.”

Palmer has since been making regular appearances on the show and it’s been making him feel a lot better, BBC Radio Solent reports.
