The holidays are a time to spend with family, so one Michigan restaurant has put out an offer to provide free meals to lonely people this Thanksgiving.

George’s Senate Coney Island Restaurant has put a sign in their front window that reads: “George’s Thanksgiving Day dinner. If anyone is home alone, come eat with us for free! All day Thurs. November 26th,” according to a photo posted to Reddit.

It’s a perennial offer from the owner for anyone who’s homeless or simply alone for the holiday to come in and be surrounded by likewise situated people, according to WILX 10 News.

The owner, George, first came to the United States from Greece when he was 23, according to the NBC affiliate.

George reportedly left his home on a farm in Greece when he was only 12 because his parents could not afford to send him and his seven brothers and sisters to school.

George spent a period of time without anywhere to stay after moving away to Athens and relied on the kindness of strangers for the food to survive.

“It makes my heart feel good to do it and help a little bit,” an older George told WILX 10.

George told the station dozens of people show up for the meal each year and he hopes more and more people continue to come.
