Oldest Olympic torchbearer hopes to inspire everyone to keep active

Polish-born Dinah Gould is set to be the oldest torchbearer set to carry the Olympic flame this year. The 70-day, 8,000-mile route will take the torch from Land's End to London for the opening ceremonies on July 27th.

"I just hope I do a good job," Gould said.

Gould will carry the torch for 300 metres in London. At 100 years old, the great-grandmother hopes to inspire both young and old to stay active.

"I am absolutely delighted and very honoured really," she said as her name was announced. "I never even thought about doing something like this so I am very, very proud."

"As long as the walk is on the flat, I'll be okay. The biggest challenge will be the weight of the torch," Gould, who remembers the 1948 Games in London, said.

Gould attributes her good health to two things: yoga and chocolate.

"I'm a chocoholic and good health is in my genes — my mother lived until she was 102," she told Reuters.
