Ottawa 'Pizza Dad' to get a Christmas to remember thanks to Redditors and an 'upvote pizza'

A man in Ottawa known simply as Pizza Dad is about to get the surprise of a lifetime for Christmas and he doesn’t even know it yet. Reddit and Imgur users have banded together to raise money for the man and his three kids without telling him.

It’s all thanks to one man in particular who took a job as a pizza delivery guy for that very same pizza shop and felt inspired by the cook after seeing how stylish and delicious his pizza creations were.

The delivery guy, completely impressed by the cook’s ability as a ‘pizza artiste’ asks him to make an ‘Upvote Pizza’. Upvoting is what you do on sites like Imgur, Reddit and other social media sites when you like a story or photo. It’s the equivalent of clicking the’ Like’ button on a Facebook post.

Pizza Dad obliges and proceeds to create this:

The delivery guy then vowed to share pictures of the pizza online, promising that it would most definitely go viral. But it’s what the delivery guy learned about Pizza Dad throughout the process that sparked the online community to raise over $4,200 and counting in just one day to help give his children some gifts under the tree this year.

It turns out Pizza Dad is more than just a talented fast food culinary artists: according to the Imgur post, he is a father of three in a long-distance relationship just trying to make ends meet. Everyone in the pizza shop knows him as a nice guy and a hard worker who never complains. Pizza Dad certainly doesn’t consider himself to be poor, and nor does the delivery guy who wanted to use an “Upvote Pizza” to make an impact on his co-worker’s holiday season.

The best part about it is that although Pizza Dad knows that his masterful pepperoni, cheese and green pepper in the form of an arrow creation is online for all to see, he doesn’t know that his personal story is being shared and that his kids are about to experience an awesome Christmas thanks to the funds being raised.

Isn’t it just awesome to see what can happen when a group of people come together and upvote a story about an ‘Upvote Pizza?’ Clearly pizza lovers in this country have hearts that are as warm and gooey as the cheese on their pies, especially around the holiday season.
