In an act of selflessness, three runners carried an injured fellow competitor during the London Marathon.

Lynne Brindley uploaded a video of her son, Will, and two other runners, finishing the race with fourth runner in their arms.

One of the men, Alex Lacey, told the Daily Mirror he first noticed the runner clutching the barrier at the 24 mile mark.

“I was in pain myself and had gone to the side to stretch. I saw the guy holding onto the barrier with his eyes rolled up into his head and his legs like jelly,” Lacey told the Mirror.

The man was offered medical aid, but it would have meant forfeiting the race, explained Lacey.

He carried the man on his own for two miles, which is when Will Brindley stepped in to help. A third man, who remains unnamed, jumped in, and the three runners carried the injured man over the finish line.

"It would be devastating to get to mile 24 and not complete the race. I couldn’t see that happen,” Lacey told the Mirror. "I didn’t want him to regret not finishing for the rest of his life.”

“That lad wanted to get across that line,” Will Brindley wrote on his mom’s Facebook video. “We were there to achieve our own goals, what ever they may have been. And helping that lad achieve his goal will stay with me forever.”

The man was whisked away by paramedics after the race, so Lacey and Brindley didn’t find out his name or how his recovery went.
