Whoops! Call of Duty: Black Ops II stars Petraeus as Defense Secretary
Well, we know at least one part of Black Ops II's near-future vision won't be coming true.
While the Call of Duty series strives for a sense of authenticity amidst the over-the-top game scenarios — and it usually hits pretty close to the mark — current events are casting doubt on one feature of Black Ops II: the casting of former CIA director David Petraeus as the Secretary of Defense in 2025.
Petraeus appears in the game on board an aircraft carrier named the USS Barrack Obama, notes Kotaku, and serves as a cabinet member of a female president (who resembles Hillary Clinton).

While the disgraced chief spy doesn't play an especially prominent role in the game, he's hard to miss, showing up in a few key sequences (which we'll avoid spoiling for you) and in a few audio messages. At least he didn't take time away from his busy scandal to do any actual work for the game, however, as Petraeus' voice is supplied by an actor.
You can't really blame the developers of Black Ops II for his inclusion. At the time of the game's development, the sex scandal surrounding the military hero wasn't on anyone's radar. Picking the CIA chief as the future Secretary of Defense made a decent amount of sense. He's a former four-star general with 37 years of service, including a stint as Commander of United States Central Command, which oversees the military efforts in Afghanistan, among other countries.
That celebrated career came to a screeching halt last week, though, when an FBI investigation uncovered an affair between Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, who co-wrote a biography of the former general. The FBI inquiry started as suspected cyber-harassment between Broadwell and Jill Kelley, a Petraeus family friend.

Petraeus isn't the only dubious military name in the game. Former Lt. Col. Oliver North, who worked as an advisor during the game's creation, is also featured -- and supplies his own voice-work.
Black Ops II is expected to be another massive seller for publisher Activision. Countless gamers braved long overnight lines to grab a copy of the game, which releases today.
