The JuiceAlfonso Ribeiro’s ‘Carlton Dance’ flash mob makes us miss ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’
It's not unusual to see Carlton Banks dance, but it is unusual to see hundreds of people dance along with him.
Alfonso Ribeiro, the "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" alum who played Will Smith's spoiled cousin from 1990 to 1996, was infamous for frequently dancing to Tom Jones's "It's Not Unusual." The dance became so well known that it was dubbed "The Carlton Dance."
Even after 16 years, Ribeiro can't escape the Carlton Dance -- not that he wants to. Last weekend, the 40-year-old actor channeled his plaid-loving alter ego once again, this time for a good cause.
At noon Saturday, Riberio led a flash mob in Universal Studios City Walk in Hollywood in a choreographed four-minute dance to "It's Not Unusual" -- with a little of the Sugarhill Gang song "Apache (Jump On It)" mixed in, a reference to another famous "Fresh Prince" dance number.
Ribeiro united with fitness group Body By Vi Challenge, putting out a call for people across Canada and the U.S. to join the "the world's largest simultaneous flash mob" and promote fitness.
Surprisingly, Ribeiro was not too exhausted after the event to tweet his satisfaction.
"Just did the worlds largest flash mob," he wrote. "Over 300 cities today at the same time. Awesome."
