Blue Jays claim infielder Breyvic Valera from Yankees
Two days after claiming reliever Ryan Dull, the Toronto Blue Jays have designated him for assignment in order to claim infielder Breyvic Valera.

Valera has been a nomad in his short MLB career, appearing in four different uniforms over the last three seasons, while logging 49 games at the highest level. The 27-year-old Venezuelan has hit .217/.298/.264 in 123 trips to the plate during that time, playing second base, shortstop, third base, and right field.
In the minor leagues, Valera holds a .299/.360/.397 line over 10 seasons since being signed as an international free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals. His greatest strengths are his ability to make consistent contact and his positional versatility. He’s perhaps best known for being part of the package the Los Angeles Dodgers sent to the Baltimore Orioles to acquire Manny Machado last season.
At this point it’s difficult to project a future role for Valera with the Blue Jays. He carries a utility player profile and seems more likely to serve as organizational depth than part of the team’s plan at the major-league level.
