Bobby Berk Eyes Buyer for Los Feliz Crib

Having bought a larger and more expensive home, “Queer Eye” design expert Bobby Berk has none-too-surprisingly put his soon-to-be former home in the Franklin Hills neighborhood of L.A.’s Los Feliz area up for sale at close to $1.7 million, a price that would allow the lifestyle and design guru to turn a modest profit on the boxy hillside contemporary he bought not even two years ago for $1.4 million.

A stacked assemblage of concrete and glass volumes glowingly described in listings held by Miguel Marte and Mark Javier of Kase Real Estate as a Bohemian Modern Masterpiece, the hillside residence contains three bedrooms and three bathrooms in almost 1,500 square feet. The sale includes plans for a new garage and guesthouse or a new garage and swimming pool.

Perched high above the street and little changed since Berk bought it, the two-story house features an open-plan main-floor living space with sugar-white walls, high ceilings and knotty blond hardwood floors. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining area peel open to a small, city-view terrace, and the gleaming all-white kitchen sports an eye-catching tile backsplash.

Outdoor spaces include a plant-filled patio atop a street-level garage and a wraparound deck where Berk installed exercise equipment. A roomy roof terrace accessible through one of the guest bedrooms (or, oddly enough, the walk-in closet of the primary bedroom), offers 360-degree views that on a clear day include the Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory and Pacific Ocean.

The entrepreneurial TV host, who runs an interior design firm and hawks a line of furniture, wallpaper and art, and his husband, maxillofacial surgeon Dewey Do, traded Los Feliz for a quiet neighborhood above the Hollywood Reservoir where they ponied up a bit more than $2 million for an updated single-level midcentury ranch house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and, like their former home, knock-your-socks-off city and mountain views.
