Missing kayaker pulled from Lake Ontario dies in hospital

The missing kayaker who was pulled from Lake Ontario near the Leslie Street Spit on Saturday morning has died, Toronto police have confirmed.

Timothy Kelley died early Saturday afternoon with his family at his side, Sgt. Marc Herman told CBC News.

Kelley, 36, was wearing a life-jacket when he was spotted at about 9:14 a.m. in Tommy Thompson Park, according to police.

The police marine unit pulled him from the water and paramedics administered CPR before rushing him to hospital. Toronto police initially said that Kelley had died before Peel police said he was in grave condition.

Herman later confirmed that Kelley succumbed to his injuries.

Kelley was last seen Thursday morning when he left his home to go kayaking on the Credit River.

He was believed to have launched from Erindale Park in Mississauga, Ont., around 8 a.m. and then headed along the river toward the lake.

Correction : An earlier version of this story reported that the missing man had been found dead based on Toronto police information. Peel police later reported that the victim was in grave condition.(Oct 31, 2015 2:04 PM)
