New book takes a look at P.E.I.'s environmental past

Given P.E.I.'s rich history and diverse ecology, it's surprising that the province's environmental history hasn't been a thorough, in-depth study.

But that need to take a closer look at the Island's environmental and ecological history was a motivating factor for a collection of essays called Time and Place.

'We love this place'

"We want to speak about our island to other people and to make an argument there are important things that other people can learn from our island," said Edward MacDonald, a professor at UPEI and one of the book's editors.

"The editors are all Islanders and we love this place and our intention, we hope, is to speak to Islanders as well and to help them understand the place that they live in."

The book's other editors are Josh MacFadyen and Irene Novaczek.

Time and Place's official launch is scheduled for July 13 at Upstreet Craft Brewing in Charlottetown.
