Brad Pitt's 'Humility Is Second to None,' Says “F1 ”Costar Damson Idris: 'Talk About a Superstar'

The 'Snowfall' actor also noted Pitt's driving skills, saying, "I don’t know if people know this, but he is really good behind that car"

Damson Idris has nothing but nice things to say about Brad Pitt.

The two star in the upcoming movie F1, which follows former Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes — played by Pitt — as he makes a comeback on the fictional team APXGP.

Idris, 32, is said to be playing APXGP teammate Joshua Pearce, whom Sonny comes out of retirement to mentor.

In an interview with Vanity Fair published on Wednesday, July 10, the Snowfall actor showered his costar with praise, calling the Oscar winner a "superstar."

"His humility is second to none," Idris told the outlet of Pitt, before noting his solid driving skills. "I don’t know if people know this, but he is really good behind that car. Really good. Too good almost. He makes me nervous how good he is."

The actor also opened up about his first day of filming the movie, which features an all-star cast including Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.

"I look to my left, it’s Brad Pitt. I look to my right, it’s Javier Bardem. I look at my hands, they’re shaking. And we shoot all of this epic stuff and all the amazing drivers are there, from Lewis [Hamilton] to [Max] Verstappen to everyone," he said.

The movie is directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.

Idris described working with the director as "a dream come true," to Vanity Fair. "He is a director’s director. He is the epitome of cinema in my opinion. The feeling I felt when I walked out of Top Gun was how I felt when I was a kid and I watched E.T. or Star Wars. Those movies are just defined by one thing: entertainment."

The first teaser for F1 debuted on July 7, with the movie set to be released in theaters on June 27, 2025. The sports action flick was filmed during this year’s Grand Prix races, which began in March, and is being made in collaboration with the real-life Formula 1 community.

In an interview with Sky Sports F1 in July 2023, Pitt opened up about his character and the premise of the film. "I would be a guy who raced in the '90s," he said. "He has a horrible crash and kind of craps out and disappears and then is racing in other disciplines."

He added that Idris’ character "brings [him] in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue."
