Leave it to Simone Rocha to afford an old world, romantically-minded beauty look a welcome bit of contemporary contrast. Backstage at this afternoon's London show, hairstylist James Pecis wove models' manes into a collection of personalized plaits, some singular, some styled in twos, each finished in a satin bow. But rather than ribbons alone, a selection of the day's braids—each centering on a finger-raked appeal and deep side-swept parts that kept the from-front vantage deceptively simple—were finished with a beaded, bow-applique barrette positioned just above the temple.

The unexpected ornaments made for a cheeky, on-the-nose addition to the otherwise elegant aesthetic, a nod to the modern lean toward slightly off-kilter accessories. Coordinated and exaggerated statement earrings conspired with the clips to create a moment that was infinitely party-ready, if a bit hyperbolic. It seems, like the majority of this season's beauty looks, Rocha's new romantic manes are equal parts pretty and irreverent.
