Brit Scott Brash looks to continue Grand Slam success in Geneva

The world's equestrian elite are gathering in Geneva, Switzerland for the last jumping major of the year.

Each of the sport's top-10 ranked jumpers will vie for the week's top prize in CHI Geneva's marquee Grand Prix event, which will be streamed live on CBCSports.ca and the CBC Sports app Sunday starting at 8:15 a.m. ET.

All eyes will be on Great Britain's Scott Brash. The 31-year-old is synonymous with the event after becoming the first and only rider to win at all three Grand Slam stops in succession.

He began his triple at CHI Geneva in 2014, and followed that up the next year with back-to-back wins in Aachen and Calgary to complete his crown.

Having successfully defended his title at Spruce Meadows in September, Brash is the only current Grand Slam contender.

Faces stiff competition

He'll have plenty of competition as each of the top-10 ranked riders are set to compete, including Canada's top-ranked jumper, Eric Lamaze, who shot up to world No. 6 on the strength of his bronze-medal performance in Rio.

The veteran rider will compete with his Olympic mount, Fine Lady 5. Other Canadian participants include Kara Chad, Ben Asselin and Christopher Surbey.

Germany's powerhouse team features two top-three competitors in No. 1 Christian Ahlmann and third-ranked Daniel Deusser.

German teammate Philipp Weishaupt could be another threat to Brash. Weishaupt already relegated Brash to second at Aachen in July, but was unable to crack the top 20 in Calgary.

The host nation will be represented by 2012 Olympic champion Steve Guerdat. British reigning Olympic champion Nick Skelton is a notable absence after being forced to pull out of the competition due to an injury to his top horse.

Prior to the victory in Rio, Big Star had won in Aachen with Skelton in 2013. The pair will be replaced by teammate Michael Whitaker.
