A broken nacho cheese machine. This Houston County restaurant fails routine inspection
A broken nacho cheese dispenser that was not holding the nacho cheese at a high enough temperature for food safety contributed to a Houston County restaurant failing its March routine health inspection.
Wing Stop at 2764 Watson Blvd., Suite 200, Centerville, received a “U” for unsatisfactory compliance with a score of 68 at its March 13 routine inspection, according to what was reported in the Georgia Department of Public Health online portal.
The restaurant bounced back with a score of 99 three days later for an “A” for “food safety excellence” at its required followup inspection March 16.
Health inspectors assign grades based on how many points are deducted from 100, with scores of 69 and below considered failing. Follow-up inspections are required when a restaurant fails its routine inspection and usually take place within 10 days.
Failing grade
During the March 13 routine inspection of Wing Stop, an Environmental Health inspector noted that the nacho cheese dispenser was holding and dispensing the nacho cheese at lower temperatures than required for food safety, according to the inspection report.
The health inspector also observed “both a pink slime-like and black mold-like substance on the baffle of the ice machine,” according to the report.
The health inspector also saw an employee drink without a lid and a straw. A cup with a secure lid and straw is required by state regulations.
Additionally, a couple of damp towels were being stored inside of a front hand sink, which is only to be used for employees to wash their hands, according to the report.
The inspector also noted that there were no paper towels at a hand sink next to the sauces table. The state requires paper towels or an air-drying machine at a hand sinks.
The inspector also found that the person in charge, who is also the certified food protection manager for the restaurant:
did not perform duties related to keeping hot holding units in good working condition
did not perform their duties related to the maintenance and operation of hand washing facilities and proper handling of employee drinks
and did not perform their duties when it comes to maintaining food contact surfaces cleaned, according to the report.
Other Houston County restaurant scores
Most other Houston County restaurants and bars scored “A’s” on their routine health inspections March 1 to March 31, with multiple earning perfect scores.
More than a dozen others earned “B’s,” while four restaurants received “C’s.”
