Buckingham Palace in the Snow Is a Magical Sight to Behold
A cold front is sweeping across Europe, blanketing cities and their most iconic monuments in a layer of snow. The latest? London’s Buckingham Palace.
The official Twitter account of the Queen and Prince Philip, the Royal Family, tweeted out a picture of the palace’s West Terrace covered in white.
“Snow started to fall this afternoon around Buckingham Palace! This photograph was taken looking towards The West Terrace, where The Queen will greet her guests during Garden Parties later this year. #LondonSnow,” they wrote.
Contrary to rom-com induced belief, London doesn’t get too much snow, and when it does, it rarely sticks. So photos of the city’s grandest monument during the storm really is a sight to behold.
And, while some may regard the bearskin hats worn by Buckingham Palace guards as silly or outdated, today they were the perfect cold-weather accessory as the soldiers continued their solemn duty of marching around the courtyard.
Buckingham Palace wasn’t the only royal household reveling in its snow day moment. Clarence House, the home of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, also tweeted out a picture of their icy garden, ending it with an appropriate snowflake emoji.
The inclement weather, however, didn’t stop the royals from completing their duties—earlier this morning, Kate Middleton stepped out in a custom Jenny Packham ensemble for her visit to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London.
Her home of Kensington Palace didn’t share any stormy pictures, but we’d like to imagine that a bundled-up George and Charlotte are outside, making many a snow angel.
