'Cabaret' Star Gayle Rankin Makes Her Met Gala Debut in Prabal Gurung
Fresh off her first Tony nomination, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club star Gayle Rankin is making her Met Gala debut.
For the "Garden of Time" themed evening, Rankin opted for a black, beaded gown designed by Prabal Gurung, and she carried a bouquet of red roses.
Tonight, Rankin is one of many chic stars dressed by Gurung, including Bridgerton's Simone Ashley, tennis star Maria Sharapova, and singer Laufey. "I love is hosting all our incredible, inspiring guests together in a suite for a moment of calm and camaraderie before we drive off," Gurung told T&C. "I feel so lucky to be able to celebrate my favorite nights of the year with such accomplished, creative, and beautiful women of substance."
Rankin's is a departure from her costumes as Sally Bowles in the new revival of Cabaret, now on Broadway. "I feel honored to be working on a piece of art that is the conversation with the world," she told Town & Country last month. "It's just heartbreaking. It's scary. Sometimes, I do feel this kind of very present feeling—I don't know how better to describe it than a feeling of like, we are all in this room right now hearing these words. There's a feeling of foreboding."
She adds, "Where else would I rather be right here? We're living in a time of upheaval. When there's a piece of art that reflects that feeling, people are hungry for it because it's the unknown, it's about mortality. We're scared. We want to know what to do, and we want to feel less alone."
