The Calgary police homicide unit is investigating after a man who was assaulted earlier this month died.

On July 8, officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Cottonwood Cres. S.E. at about 3 a.m. for reports of a man in medical distress.

Kevin Allen Honish, 55, was taken to hospital in serious condition. On July 16, he died from his injuries, police said in a release on Tuesday.

Investigators now believe the victim had been assaulted at a residence in the 2500 block of 10th Avenue S.E. in Radisson Heights several hours before going to the Southview residence looking for help.

Police want to speak with anyone who was in or near the residence where the assault happened.

Witnesses and anyone with information about the incident are asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.

An autopsy is set for Thursday.
