Police in Mexico say they are investigating the death of a Nanaimo, B.C., man as a homicide.

The body of Ron Mackintosh, who had been reported missing in Mexico in October, was found Tuesday in the town of Barra de Navidad, located about 600 kilometres west of Mexico City on the country's Pacific coast.

Police investigator Manuel Montes confirmed to CBC News that Mackintosh was slain.

Mackintosh disappeared after dropping off a friend in the town of Melaque, according to the Guadalajara Reporter newspaper.

He had reportedly been driving a Jeep and had his dog with him. The vehicle and dog have not been found.

Another B.C. man was killed in the Melaque area in January. Robin Wood, 67, was gunned down after interrupting a burglary at a condominium where he was staying with a friend. Three men were arrested later in connection with his death.
