New Canadian women's pro soccer league to be called Northern Super League

TORONTO — The new Canadian women's pro soccer league will be called the Northern Super League, with franchises in Ottawa and Montreal completing the six-team circuit set to kick off in April 2025.

The name and latest cities to come on board were revealed today in a speech by Diana Matheson, CEO and co-founder of Project 8 — the group behind the league.

Matheson, a former Canadian international, was speaking to the espnW Summit Canada.

Ottawa and Montreal will join previously announced franchises in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

Teams will play a 25-game regular season, working under a $1.5-million salary cap, ahead of the playoffs.
