Capcom Officially Announces New 'Resident Evil' Video Game

A new Resident Evil video game is officially in the works.

Capcom announced the news during their Next Summer 2024 stream, naming Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi as the head of the new project. "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," the video game director and designer said via IGN. "But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Additional information about a game, including a plot and release window, were not revealed.

The latest entry in the long-running video game franchise is a remake of Resident Evil 4, which dropped in December 2023. The remake of the 2005 title received positive reviews and went on to sell 7 million units by March of this year, officially making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise's history. It was also nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards.
